Description: Dick Despins received his BS degree from the University of New Hampshire in Mechanical Engineering in 1981, followed by an MBA from NH College in 1987. Dick began his career with Public Service of New Hampshire immediately following graduation in 1981 at Schiller Station. After working several years in various engineering and management capacities at Schiller, Dick worked on special assignments at Corporate in CT and Manchester. In 1997, he took on one of the Manager positions at Newington Station and remained there until 2001 when he returned to Schiller as Station Manager. It was at that time when he worked on the development of the Northern Wood Power Project. Schiller Station is one of PSNH\'s electrical energy generation facilities. PSNH\'s generation fleet consists of coal, oil, wood, hydro and combustion turbine technologies. This diversity provides added stability for PSNH customer rates. Schiller Station consists of a single 20 megawatt (mw) combustion turbine with black start capability; 2-50 mw units that can burn coal and/or residual oil; 1-50 mw unit that can burn wood and/or coal known as the Northern Wood Power (NWP) unit. This wood fired unit achieved commercial operation on December 1, 2006. The re-powering project has had significant positive results for the environment, regional economy, and PSNH customers. NWP will be the focus of the presentation.
